A foreigner-only casino operator in Korea says he is looking to sell his expertise in casino business and casino information technology to other emerging game markets. It is an element of the three-part long-term plan that will shake up the Grand Korea Leisure (GKL) business amid growing regional competition.
Grand Korea Leisure Inc. (GKL) did not mention the specific target market for selling the service. However, it highlighted the fact that Korea will face competition from Japan's casino industry, and possibly Thailand's casino industry.
Grand Korea Leisure, which is listed on the Korea Exchange, launched what it calls a new "business task force" on Friday. Its three focus areas are casino business overseas expansion, casino business digitalization, and tourism industry education.
The company said in a statement that the task force team has co-chairs including GKL CEO Kim Young-san, union chairman, and 11 GKL officials.
"Expanding Casino Business Aiming Overseas" stated that it aims to export "excellent" personnel, proprietary casino IT technology, and casino business consulting.
According to a press release, Kim said at the task force launch event: "As Japan and Thailand enter the Asian casino business, we expect competition to escalate and tourists entering Korea will change their spending patterns… As a result, we must prepare for the future."
In April, Grand Korea Leisure said it would strengthen its consumer marketing activities in Japan in the second half of this year.
Grand Korea Leisure operates three foreigner-only casinos under the Seven Luck brand: two in the capital city of Seoul and one in the southern port city of Busan.
